How it works
-
What materials do you use to build treehouses? We only use the best quality materials for our tree houses. Our timber products are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified (https://fsc.org/en). With the UK weather in mind, we build treehouses to withstand all kinds of weather so that they are safe and look good for years to come.
-
Are treehouses safe?Having an arboriculture background, we can certainly give first class advice on whether your trees are suitably safe to attach a tree house to. We will also advise if pruning works are necessary before the build commences. By using quality materials and having the knowledge and skill set, you can be assured that your tree house will be strong and safe.
-
How long do your treehouses last?A treehouse needs to be both enchanting and enduring. To ensure your treehouse stands the test of time and doesn’t deteriorate after just a year or so, we are committed to using only high-quality materials. This dedication to quality provides you with the peace of mind that your treehouse is both safe and durable. The process begins with identifying the ideal location for your treehouse. Once this perfect spot is chosen, our service includes a comprehensive survey of the trees in the area. This survey is a vital step as it allows us to identify any necessary remedial work. For instance, we check for and address any risks posed by falling deadwood, which could potentially damage your treehouse. Our goal is to ensure that your treehouse is not just a fleeting fantasy but a lasting sanctuary for years to come.
-
How much does a treehouse survey cost? Our treehouse services include complimentary site visits for locations within a 50-mile radius of our headquarters in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. For sites beyond this area, we may apply a small visitation fee, which is fully refundable should you decide to proceed with your treehouse project. When you contact us, we typically suggest a virtual consultation via FaceTime or other video sharing. This allows us to view your garden and the available space remotely. Based on this virtual tour and any supplementary photos you provide, we can determine whether an in-person site visit is essential. If it’s not necessary, we can proceed with the planning and costing process using the information gathered during the video call.
-
Does your treehouses need planning permission? In recent times, the construction of treehouses, including pre-made structures from large high street retailers has become subject to stricter regulations. Tree houses are not automatically covered under the permitted development rights. Contacting your local planning authority (LPA) before getting started is a good idea. There may be some other requirements your designs need to meet. Applicants must often submit comprehensive plans, including detailed drawings and Ordnance Survey maps pinpointing the treehouse’s location. These documents are essential for planning authorities to evaluate the potential effects on nearby properties.
-
Are treehouses sustainable? If necessary, we use concrete as a ground support. The cement within concrete has a high carbon content so we avoid it if we can. Preferably, we use UK manufactured ground screws. Ground screws are galvanised steel units which are installed in soil, creating a stable foundation for building on. While these screws do have their own carbon footprint from their manufacture, in comparison to using concrete foundations they produce 4x less carbon. What’s more, they cause much less disturbance to the soil itself as they take up a much smaller amount of space than traditional foundations. For tree health this is vital. Large concrete foundations can disrupt and destroy a tree’s roots, leaving it at risk of disease and decay.
